When You Arrive

On your first day at Coach Ron’s Boxing, please check in at the front desk and let us know you’ve arrived. We’ll make sure you’re all set to get started.

We have all the equipment you’ll need for your first class. While loaner gear is available, we do recommend purchasing your own equipment over time. We offer gloves, focus mitts, headgear, and groin protectors for sale at the gym.

For your trial, we will provide loaner hand wraps. We encourage you to review how to wrap your hands before class, but don’t worry, our coaches are always available to help if you need assistance.

Your First Class

Before class begins, students usually take time to stretch on the floor and get loose. Once class starts, we begin with a warm-up that includes 3–4 floor exercises such as push-ups, planks, and jumping jacks to prepare the body.

After warming up, students line up for footwork drills. Footwork focuses on how we move in boxing—balance, positioning, and control. Students practice moving forward, backward, and side-to-side while staying in a proper stance. These drills help develop coordination, speed, and the ability to stay balanced while attacking or defending. Typically, students move down one line and return on another, with the coach calling out or demonstrating the specific movement.

Next, we move into line drills and punch counts, where students practice individual punches and combinations to build technique, rhythm, and consistency.

From there, we transition into round work. This may include stations like the heavy bag, speed bag, jump rope, and other conditioning drills. The exact stations vary depending on the class.

We wrap up each session by gathering in a circle and listening to the coach for final thoughts, feedback, and announcements. We then circle around and show our respect to our fellow teammates.
